Welcome to the Excursion Club backpacking page! We organize several trips every quarter, making this activity the foundation of the club. Some of the more popular places we go are Big Sur and the San Rafael Wilderness, due to their close proximity to Santa Barbara.

Backpacking is unique because since you carry everything yourself, you must limit the amount of gear you bring. Most of the things we take for granted are left behind, allowing you to appreciate the wilderness in a much more profound way.

The club has a large number of backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, tarps, and tents. Members are able to borrow equipment at no cost for any of the trips that we run.
